An AI-assisted image restoration, 1080p remaster and comprehensive audio renewal that goes beyond conventional upscaling by treating every shot as a separate restoration task.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This is not an enlargement process. It is a shot-by-shot reconstruction of the documentary’s image and sound world.
For Hejaz Railway: A Journey of 100 Years, the low-resolution archival master was never handed to a single automatic filter. Every shot was individually analysed and restored through a controlled workflow.
BEYOND CONVENTIONAL UPSCALING
Not simply more pixels, but a more credible image.
The aim was not to over-sharpen the archive or erase its period texture. The objective was to preserve the existing visual evidence while rebuilding perceived detail, edge integrity, material texture and continuity in motion.
RESTORATION PHILOSOPHY
Bring the film into the present without erasing its age.
New-generation models were not used to replace the image, but to present the information already carried by the source within a clearer, more balanced and more stable master.
CUSTOM WORKFLOW
Base restoration
Noise, instability, halos, chromatic shifts and structural artefacts inherited from the old master were carefully reduced.
Model-assisted detail
Scene-appropriate models rebuilt perceived detail and material separation while avoiding synthetic over-sharpening.
Temporal validation
Shimmering detail, texture crawl and frame-to-frame identity drift were visually checked across every shot.
1080p finishing
Colour, contrast, micro-texture, controlled grain and delivery levels were unified in one coherent Full HD master.
AUDIO AND MUSIC RENEWAL
When the image is renewed, the sound cannot remain behind.
The original soundtrack was revisited alongside the image restoration. Continuous background noise and mechanical hum were reduced; dialogue intelligibility, tonal balance and transition continuity were improved.
